business occupations/Business Co-opBusiness Occupations/Business Co-op is a two-credit, one year program designed to provide paid work experience for junior or senior high school students.
The program consists of two components. In the Business Occupations class, students are exposed to a variety of learning opportunities and experiences including developing a positive, productive attitude toward work; realizing the importance of work attendance and punctuality; communicating effectively, developing problem solving skills; understanding the importance of motivation and initiative; proper presentation and work etiquette, presentation skills, interpersonal and teamwork skills, planning and organizing skills and computer literacy skills. In the Business Co-op component, students use part of the school day to work for a community business. While on the job the students gain valuable experience dealing with day-to-day issues of a real work setting. The opportunities students are presented with in the workplace include working with a wide variety of personalities, solving real-world problems; and modeling behaviors demonstrated by the professionals that work with them. All of these real-live opportunities contribute substantially to the students’ educational, occupational, and social development. Your grade for this class will be granted by your supervisor or employer. You must have your own transportation. You may take the Business Occupations class without being enrolled in Business Co-op, which is the outside-of-school component. The Business Co-op program is state certified, and any student who meets all of the competencies established by the State of Wisconsin will be recognized by the state. A certificate of accomplishment will be awarded to you that can prove very valuable in obtaining a job or in receiving vocational credit. Through on-the-job experiences and classroom training, all students should have ample opportunity to accomplish the state-set goals. |
